Korea Blockchain Association taps Oh as new presdident

Oh Gap-soo, president of the Global Finance Society, who was tapped to succeed outgoing Korea Blockchain Association head Chin Dae-je

The Korea Blockchain Association announced Monday that it had tapped Oh Gap-soo, president of the Global Finance Society, to succeed Chin Dae-je, the association’s inaugural president.

Chin expressed intentions to step down at the regular board meeting in March. The association has since formed an in-house recommendation committee to look for Chin’s successor.

Having served as senior deputy governor for banks of the Financial Supervisory Service in the participatory government under President Roh Moo-hyun, Oh acted as deputy chief of Standard Chartered Bank Korea and outside director of KB Kookmin Bank. Currently, he is leading the Global Finance Society. He graduated from College of Commerce at Seoul National University and obtained his MBA at the graduate school of SNU and his doctorate in the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Since his inauguration on Jan. 26 last year, Chin has focused on laying the groundwork for the association, enacting voluntary regulations governing cryptocurrency exchanges and drawing up guidelines for initial coin offerings and exchanges. He reportedly plans to devote himself to tackling urban problems including fine dust in his capacity as head of Seoul City’s Innovative Growth Committee and advisor for the city’s municipal affairs.

The association will finalize the selection of Oh as its president in an extraordinary meeting scheduled for June 24. /yjk@decenter.kr
